Join Missouri afterschool youth in grades 7-12 for the Youth Advocacy Summit in Jefferson City, October 16-17! At this year’s summit youth will visit the capitol, meet legislators and staff, and learn the importance of participation in government. This year’s theme is Art as Advocacy. Youth will learn from Missouri artists how to influence decision makers and bring their communities together.
- Programs can receive a mini-grant of $2000 to implement a civic engagement focused service-learning project.
- Youth can earn a $50 stipend at the summit.
- Following the summit, youth can join Voice of the Youth to promote youth opportunities in afterschool.
Youth
Join youth from around the state to learn to communicate with lawmakers and other leaders; advocate for afterschool programs and other issues you care about; develop leadership skills; tour the Missouri Capitol; and get to know other youth and adults with similar interests. After the summit, you will have an opportunity to continue as part of the Voice of the Youth council.
Afterschool Programs
Afterschool programs can bring up to 8 youth from their programs and 1-3 staff members. Please reach out to youth who have an interest in art, advocacy, politics, or civic engagement to encourage them to register. MASN will cover hotel and food for youth and staff and there is no registration cost. Interested programs will receive a $2000 mini-grant to implement a civic engagement focused service learning project.
Parents/ Guardians
Your youth will join others from around the state for an enriching experience to encourage involvement in their schools and communities. They will tour the capitol, learn to talk to decision makers and learn how to advocate for afterschool programs and other issues they care about. MASN will cover the cost of hotel and food and there is no registration cost.
