Inviting policymakers to Lights On

This year Lights On Afterschool will host policymaker visits to afterschool programs, among many other types of events. We encourage programs to invite legislators, mayors and more. If you would like to invite a policymaker, here is some sample language for the invitation:

Hi [POLICYMAKER TITLE AND NAME],

Lights On Afterschool is a nationwide celebration of the staff and community that makes afterschool programs like ours, [PROGRAM NAME], possible. During the celebration, policymakers from across the country visit afterschool programs to participate in events. Last year, Lt. Gov. Kehoe, Secretary of State Ashcroft and Treasurer Fitzpatrick all visited programs for Lights On Afterschool. This year we would like to invite you to visit our program in-person for Lights On Afterschool on [EVENT DATE] at [TIME]. During that time we will [DESCRIBE ACTIVITIES OR AGENDA PLANNED]. We will also alert the local media that you are coming. Please let us know if you will be able to join us.
