The Missouri AfterSchool Network has four standing committees that meet four times throughout the year. All afterschool stakeholders, such as program administrators, site staff, parents, community partners, local intermediaries, business leaders, and policymakers, are invited to participate in the quarterly Afterschool Committee Meetings. Please Checkout the Pipeline for information on upcoming meetings.
This committee ensures that quality professional development is available throughout the state. The committee will work with MASN staff on the Virtual Professional Development system for the Mott Foundation grant.
This committee supports grassroots and local advocacy efforts including the Afterschool Ambassadors program and round table events. The Public Policy and Awareness committee also promotes the importance of afterschool through a variety of social and print media. We compile resources, coordinate training, and are working on a way for afterschool programs to do collective online fundraising.
The Quality Committee has been very active over the past 10 years developing resources to improve the quality of afterschool in Missouri. We provide guidance and feedback on specific systems required for the grantees and ensure that the work developed for the grantees applies to all programs.
- PQA Assessment Tools: Provided guidance and feedback to MASN and the 4-H Center for Youth Development as they developed the infrastructure for completing external PQAs for the 21st CCLC and SAC grantees. Reviewed pilot data, proposed a focus group with grantee directors, and received reports about initial overall program quality.
- Afterschool Surveys: Reviewed family, staff, and youth surveys to develop best practice recommendations which can be accessed online by all programs.
- Drafting School Age Licensing Rules: Currently discussing recommendations to DHSS about certain key aspects of the licensing rules.
- Core Competencies and Program Standards: The Core Competencies were updated in 2011 with the creation of the KS/MO Core Competencies for Early Childhood and Youth Development Professionals in partnership with the OPEN Initiative, Child Care Aware of Kansas, and the Kansas Enrichment Network. The Missouri Afterschool Program Standards were printed in 2008 and developed in partnership with United 4 Children and YouthNet (now part of the Francis Institute for Child and Youth Development).
This committee coordinates STEM professional development, resources, partnerships, and awareness. The STEM committee ensures that there is an afterschool presence at STEM Day at the Capitol each year.
- Project LIFTOFF: This initiative is designed to elevate STEM in afterschool and informal education settings. Project Liftoff was funded by the Mott Foundation from 2008-2011 and the Noyce Foundation from 2010-2014.
- MO Girls CSI: MO Girls CSI is an affiliate of the National Girls Collaborative Project. Missouri has participated in NGCP’s training programs for InventionX and Science Action Clubs.
- Missouri Math and Science Coalition (MMSC): MASN partners with the MMSC to promote the value of STEM education and careers. Visit the MMSC website for more information.
