Afterschool, my forever career

Rebecca Longenecker, Quality and PD Committee Co-Chair

Rebecca Longenecker, assistant program coordinator for the Nixa XLT Program, and an 11-year program veteran, quickly fell in love with the afterschool community.

“I realized that afterschool was my forever career, but was never told that afterschool could be a forever career,” said Rebecca.

Providing quality care to students in the before- and afterschool space is central to Rebecca’s objective. “I want my experience in the afterschool setting to assist in creating, and strengthening, other quality programs across Missouri,” Rebecca said.

Supporting other programs and staff is a fundamental driver as she pursues her passion of finding ways to boost quality professional development. She aspires to work alongside her team to help with foundational growth during their time at Nixa XLT. This team growth is reflected in the Nixa XLT programs, an essential quality for the betterment of the students.

Rebecca states the importance of taking an active role in the Quality and PD Committee, “My goal is to bring the same work ethic I have in my everyday job to the MASN Quality and PD Committee. Teamwork and collaboration are key to a positive program, and what better place to do that than with afterschool professionals across Missouri.”
