Meet a few of Missouri’s Afterschool Ambassadors: Advocating for Access and Opportunity

At the Missouri AfterSchool Network (MASN), we believe that every child deserves access to high-quality afterschool programs—and we know that real change starts with strong advocates. That’s where our Afterschool Ambassadors come in.

The Afterschool Ambassadors program is designed to empower emerging leaders in the field to become confident, effective advocates for afterschool access across Missouri. These ambassadors are the voice of the field, helping to raise awareness about the value of afterschool by connecting directly with federal, state, and local elected officials.

Through in-person meetings, program site visits, phone calls, emails, and social media engagement, ambassadors build lasting relationships with decision-makers while highlighting the impact of afterschool programs in their communities.

Each year, MASN’s Policy and Advocacy Committee selects 5 to 10 new ambassadors from a pool of passionate applicants. Selected participants receive hands-on advocacy training, opportunities to connect with peers, and ongoing mentorship throughout their 1-year term.

By equipping local leaders with the tools and support they need to speak up for afterschool, we’re building a stronger, more connected network—one that ensures all Missouri youth have access to safe, enriching, and inspiring programs after the school day ends.

As Rep. Jeff Coleman, one of our afterschool supporters at the capitol put it, “You are all year-round staff members and your voice deserves to be heard and appreciated by us.”
