STEM Professional Development

MASN has trainers that are certified by the curriculum entity to provide training to program staff on the following curricula: NPASS, SciGirls, Afterschool Math Plus, and various 4-H Robotics curricula.  Questions? Ready to schedule? Contact us today!

These trainings can be scheduled for individual programs or regional events. MASN intends to offer at least four STEM trainings per year in partnership with MOSAC2’s Local Affiliates or large area service providers (e.g., YMCAs or Boys & Girls Clubs). These trainings will be posted on the Missouri Workshop Calendar once scheduled.  If you would like to “co-host” a STEM training, please contact MASN.

NPASS2 The Design It! and Explore It! curriculum series each consist of about 13 introductory science and engineering projects. They were developed by Education Development Center (EDC) in Waltham, Mass with funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and are intended for use in after school programs serving elementary age students.  Link:

SciGirls SciGirls is a PBS Kids television series out to change how tweens think about science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM! In each episode, join bright, curious real girls in putting STEM to work. Then check out the website to play games, watch episodes, share projects, and connect with other SciGirls in a totally safe social networking environment!

After-School Math PLUS After-School Math PLUS, funded by the National Science Foundation, targets students from low-income families in grades 3-8 who attend afterschool programs. Students engage in fun, real-world mathematics activities and then create an exhibit that displays the math skills and content they have learned. Families and community members gather together to celebrate students’ work at a culminating event that takes place at a science museum or other community site, creating a unique partnership between afterschool centers and museums.  Link:

MASN also has STEM Kits for NPASS and SciGirls available for rent. Each kit contains most of the more difficult to find materials needed for the specific curriculum guide. Program staff will still need to provide some common items/consumables (see specific kit lists for details). Kits are rented for $50 (except when noted) to help cover the cost of shipping and replenishing supplies. Afterschool programs can make arrangements to pick-up/drop-of STEM kits for a reduced rental fee.
